BD | WEST 2016

It was the best of times… It was the BEST of times! (No, really.)

A new venue and fresh product made for a promising BD West 2016 and this years’ show did not disappoint.

Held at the San Diego Convention Center in years past, there was a rumbling in the industry that its move to Downtown LA would deter designers not willing to negotiate the “charms” of DTLA (think traffic, one-way streets, parking nightmares, NO sea breezes, TRAFFIC).

Boy, were we surprised!

This year’s show marked a record turnout (we’re told) and there was an energy in the air not felt in previous shows. People were amped and aisles were literally crowded with trade members looking to make new connections. The STYLE team made their entrance on the eve of the show and took advantage of one-on-one morning meetings with exhibitors before taking on the show full force.

Farewell to an era of dark and heavy design. 2016 welcomes a much needed breath of light and airy inspiration.

Products highlights included introductions from such exhibitors as Renwil, Artistic Tile, Tableaux, Sonneman and Materials Inc. (We could really go on and on since there was so much good product to see!)

Thursday night culminated with the outstanding NEWH OC & LA Hospitality Fashion Challenge Runway Event held at Exchange LA where STYLE was able to see, first-hand, the inner workings of a full-fledged runway show with all the nuances of Fashion Week. The night was capped off with a win for Gensler—Congrats Gensler team!

The STYLE team took Friday to “leisurely” close out the show and to close the loop on our show discoveries. Well, and to get that last sip of champagne.

All in all, a great show! We left the show armed with great new information, products and sources from connections old and new. We look forward to an amazing BD West 2017!

Trade Shows { A Survival Guide }

It's trade show season, kids! With #BDWest around the corner and #HDEXPO hot on its heels, we @ STYLE have assembled the ultimate trade show survival kit. Whether your travels are near or far, the following should help get you through some long days on the trade floor and even longer nights spent with connections old and new.

What's in my bag, you ask?

Snacks | Days are long and you will be walking. A LOT. I like to maximize my time on the trade show floor, so being able to walk around with a protein bar and my trademark giant bottle of water lets me get the most out of the day. (Note: dump any water out before boarding your plane, don't be that person in line.)

Lotions & Potions | An awesome hand cream: In Vegas, your hands will be more dry than a day of handling tile!; Mints: keep fresh; Lip Balm: Again, Vegas. That place sucks all moisture out of you; Advil:  Long days + even longer nights.

Coffee | Breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner, dessert? At STYLE, we live on coffee. It goes well with Advil too!

Tape Measure | Because when you don't have it, is when you always need it.

  Electronics | Don’t forget the portable charger. Oh, and the charger for your charger. Text, hashtag, work, emoji, Instagram, fb, blog, email, connect your  <3  away.  A BIG Bag | Something you can throw over your shoulder; you'll leave with serious swag Business Cards | Bring a 1" thick stack. Keep in touch with your new connections.  Remember to update your digital "business card" - LinkedIn as well.  In today's digital world, it's all about online presence!
